My great great grandfather George GALE was no 695, being convicted of horse stealing at Winchester Court, Hampshire on 2/1/1849. He was moved to the prison hulk "Justitia" at Woolwich on the Thames River in October 1849. He was held there until transported on the "Minden" to the Swan River Colony.

Like the others he was granted a ticket of leave on arrival, 18/10/1851, a conditional pardon 31/12/1853 and permission to marry at the same time.

George moved up to the York area and married Mary Ann DEVINE from Limerick, Ireland, at Toodyay on 3/5/1856. The couple settled to farming, on "Down Farm" near York and produced eleven children. George died in Northam 25/1/1896.
