The Commissioners had appointed two vessels to carry their official Survey Party out to South Australia. Although they owned the the first ship, the RAPID, they only chartered the 239 ton barque CYGNET.
Under the command of Captain John Rolls, she sailed from England and arrived in Nepean Bay, Kangaroo Island on 11 September, 1836.
In addition to her engagement to carry out part of the survey staff with their laborers, and a few other persons, she was later employed in the Colony for survey work.
Of the passengers listed, G.S. Kingston was Deputy-Surveyor; B.T. Finniss, Neale, Symonds, Hardy, and Cannon were Assistant Surveyors; Captain Lipson was the Harbour Master; Edward Wright was the Surgeon; and Thomas Gilbert was the Storekeeper.

"Compilation of a list of passengers carried on the vessels which arrived in South
Australia in the early period of its history is fraught with difficulties. The absence of
records is accounted for no doubt, by accidental destruction by fire of official papers.
Figures given in the S.A. Commissioners' Reports do not accord with the number of names recorded
in the lists of persons carried, when these are available. The South Australian Company's
papers, deposited in the South Australian Archives have made it possible to compile an authentic
list of persons who embarked for South Australia in the Company's vessels".
